More than likely, you were taught that Canola Oil is healthy. For years, it was touted as a low-fat, healthy oil, and some experts still stand behind those healthy claims.
But let’s take a closer look, shall we?
What is Canola OIl?
Canola oil is a genetically-modified rapeseed plant. Before all the modifications happened, it was a plant high in erucic acid which can be toxic and harm human internal organs. The FDA originally banned rapeseed oil for these reasons, but in 1974, they found a way to make it “safe” for human consumption. And they even changed the name to canola oil. It is high in monounsaturated fats and low in saturated fat, and for that reason, many health experts still call canola oil “healthy.”
